It is considered equivalent to the Goethe-Zertifikat or TestDaF exams offered by Germany, yet it possesses its own unique structure and focus.

- Visa and Residency: Levels A1 and A2 are mandatory for family reunification or residency permits in Austria.
- Medicine and Healthcare: It is the most preferred exam for doctors and nurses wishing to prove their language proficiency to practice in Austria.
